When my friend and I decided to do a combined Scotland and Ireland trip, I had no idea what to expect! The minute we booked our tickets we started planning where to go and what to see. Here are a few things that I did to prepare that really helped make my trip perfect.
What to Wear
1. Puffer Jacket
I bought a nice big, fluffy down North Face jacket to wear on my trip because I knew it would be pretty cold in March when we were going. I made sure it was longer than usual too just to be sure that I would be as warm as possible. With multiple layers underneath and the jacket on top, I was rarely cold. This made me able to really enjoy my trip and all the places we were visiting.
2. Cougar Boots
In addition to making sure the upper half of my body was warm, the other thing I knew would get cold easily were my feet. I found these cute Cougar brand boots that are meant specifically to keep your feet warm in freezing temperatures. They were amazing! My feet never got cold, and the boots were super cute and matched perfectly with everything. If I didn’t live in Los Angeles, where I don’t need shoes like these on a regular basis, I would definitely have a bunch more.

What To See
1. Cliffs of Moher
Yes, I know, this is the most touristy thing I could put here. But honestly, it was amazing. Now I know why everyone says it because it is absolutely stunning. I can’t even do justice to how magnificent the cliffs are. The day we went, there were gale force winds meaning winds between 39–54 mph! There were moments where the wind was so strong, I couldn’t even move. Somehow this just made the whole experience more amazing, because you truly felt the power of nature.

2. Temple Bar
OK, I know this is the second most touristy thing to put on the list, but I’ve only been to Ireland once so of course I did all the touristy stuff. Forgive me. We went during St. Patrick’s Day (cue the eye rolls once again) so it was crazy busy in the area. Because of this, we weren’t able to truly enjoy everything this wonderful pub had to offer.
3. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral
We were able to see the cathedral from the outside, but the line to get in was so long so it was something we decided to skip since we didn’t have time. This is one of the top things on my list for the next time I visit. It looks beautiful from the outside and I’m sure it is even more incredible on the inside. Going during St. Patrick’s Day was fun, but it definitely made it harder to do certain things in Dublin since everyone was there and was also doing the exact same things.
What are your tips for planning a trip to Ireland? and what places have you visited that you think are must sees? Let me know in the comments.
